The Broke Fordwich region provides quality events

Broke Bulga Garden Ramble

Friday  September 26th

This year the starting point is Bulga Community Hall  Which is on the corner of Putty Rd and Inlet Rd - click here for this year's map

The Garden Ramble has been part of the Broke Fordwich culture for many years.  A mixture of private, professional, informal and formal gardens.

Although the drought saw some loss of quality in some gardens, the good rains and the resultant soil-moisture content promises that this Spring event this year will be outstanding.

Broke Fordwich extends in a 16km radius from the village of Broke.

Each year the ramble encompasses a different group of gardens.  This year is the Bulga area's turn to host the Ramble.

The beginning point is the Bulga Community Hall where 'ramblers' will receive a map and a ticket.

Ticket price is $20 - this includes lunch and there will be a drawing of lucky door prizes

The Hall is also where lunch is held and the guest speaker will be presented.

Each year a growing number of visitors attend -last year saw over 100 visitors take part.

This year why not book accommodation and stay over night?  Get on board a wine tour on Saturday or Sunday and complete your Broke Fordwich experience.

You can enjoy first class meals, gourmet produce, and some of the best wine in the valley.

The broke Fordwich region is the tranquil side of the Hunter Valley

The Broke Fair began in an odd way, with three men drinking wine and relaxing in the village of Broke. Each was accompanied by a bizarre vehicle which included a London Police Car, a Double Decker Bus and a Vintage Car. This attracted a wide array of attention and when asked for a cup of tea by a passer-by they could only offer wine.

The following year a group of church women set up a stand next to them offering tea, coffee, and home made cooking. A community meeting was held in 1986 to organise an event which has now become known as “The Broke Village Fair”.

NOT JUST A FOLK FESTIVAL

This year's festival will be another chance for folkjazzdance performers to wow the Hunter Valley.  A great opportunity for audiences to combine the wine, food and great stays with an assortment of some of the best original and traditional music dance and entertainment over 3 days.

The festival, centred in the  20 acres of the common in the middle of historic Broke Village, is served by two churches, several large marquees, the Village Hall and local restaurants all providing venues for day and night events.  Market stalls will add to the experience.

In addition to quality accommodation provided by the many villas, cottages and farm stays, visitors can avail themselves of the free camping in the common.

The Broke Fordwich region provides 25% of the Hunter Valley’s quality grapes and wine and has been settled since the early 1820’s.  All of the cellar door establishments and gourmet farm suppliers run their own businesses and are there to meet the visitor and provide an opportunity to sample the spectacular local products.

The old fashioned country sprit and generosity overflows into this wonderful event.

Visitors who attended last year's fest have been effusive in their praise and strongly encouraging for this to be a regular event on the national festivals circuit.

Artistic Director Maureen O'Brien, promises some exciting new events for this years festival and a lineup of talent sure to appeal to a wide variety of musical tastes.   Everything from Latin, Contemporary Folk, Bluegrass, Jazz, Blues, Traditional and numerous points in between.

Amateur musicians will have lots of opportunities to sit in on workshops, jam sessions, and participate in the many blackboard concerts on offer over the weekend
